Preparing for your appointment
How to prepare
You can usually eat, drink and take your regular medications unless your physician provides different instructions. Wear clothing that can be removed easily from the waist up.
What to expect
A cardiac sonographer places ECG stickers on the chest and uses a small ultrasound transducer with gel to obtain images from several positions. You may be asked to change position or adjust your breathing. The examination generally takes about 45 minutes.
After the test
You can normally return to your usual activities. A physician reviews the images and reports the results to your referring doctor.
